Dental Fillings

We help repair cavities and restore your mouth to full function so that you can get back to life with a healthy mouth.  Fillings provide safe and effective cavity repair to quickly restore full function and health to your teeth and gums.  Safe and durable, our composite fillings will restore beauty to your smile.  Composite fillings uses tooth-coloured resin, you won’t be able to tell the repair is even there.

To ensure complete comfort during the appointment we will safely freeze your mouth.  Then we will clean the area and eliminate any bacteria.  Once the tooth is prepared a colour matched composite resin will be applied.  A special light will be used to harden the resin and we will shape the tooth so it blends naturally with your smile.  Composite fillings can last for more than 10 years.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy salvages the natural tooth rather than replacing it with a dental implant so that you eliminate pain and restore your oral health.  Over time teeth atrophy, meaning they can decay, break, and crack.  The best treatment for a badly decayed or broken tooth is often a root canal.  This procedure salvages the natural tooth instead of replacing it with a dental implant.  Root canals can be a long-term treatment.

What is a root canal therapy?

When a tooth is deeply infected, the inside of the tooth can become infected and painful, typically as the result of decay or injury.  The dental provider uses a specialized drill to clear the damaged area inside of the tooth and replace it with a material, and then place a temporary filling.  A permanent crown is ultimately needed to complete the root canal, allowing you to keep your natural root despite decay.

Is a root canal painful?

Root canals certainly have a reputation for being painful, but often the infection is the culprit for the pain.  The drilling of the pulp can cause discomfort, but local anesthesia is used during the treatment and should offer relief from this pain.  For many people, saving a natural tooth is worth any pain that is associated with the treatment.  If you are concerned about the pain associated with a root canal, talk to us so we can help come up with the best course of treatment that will keep you comfortable and at ease.

How does root canal therapy save the tooth?

The root canal removes the inflamed or infected pulp, carefully cleans and shapes the inside of the canal, then fills and seals the space.  Following treatment you may require a dental crown so that the tooth does not fracture again.  A tooth that has undergone a root canal therapy my be more susceptible to fracturing.  A tooth after the root canal and additional therapy will be restored to full function and continue to function like any other tooth.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Eliminate current or future pain and protect the rest of your mouth with our safe and effective wisdom teeth removal treatment.  Wisdom teeth are not absolutely necessary structures of your mouth.  Wisdom teeth may cause infection, crowding, and even decay if your mouth doesn’t have enough room for them.  Having them removed may save you from pain and further oral complications.  Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to emerge, typically appearing in young adults between the ages of 17 and 25.  In most adults there are four wisdom teeth, two on the top and two on the bottom.  As part of our ongoing care with regular checkups, the dental team monitors the progress and potential problems with wisdom teeth.

If you think your wisdom teeth may be a threat to the future of your mouth, don’t hesitate to come and see us.  Most wisdom teeth extractions can be completed using local anesthetic.  However for more complicated extractions, oral surgery may be required.  This can still be done in the office.

FAQ:

Question: When is Wisdom tooth extraction necessary?

Answer: When the teeth emerge out of alignment with the rest of the teeth, or when the wisdom teeth fail to erupt at all and become “impacted” between the jawbone and the gum tissue.  This condition can lead to chronic pain and infection if left untreated.

Question: Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?

Answer: Some people have adequate room in their mouth to facilitate wisdom teeth, therefore the teeth do not pose any potential oral health risks.  However, most people will find that wisdom teeth will cause them problems.  Although there is no ideal age to have your wisdom teeth removed, a safe rule is after the mouth has matured and stopped growing and before they cause the problems.  The sooner the better.
